Speaking of politics...

Many celebrities have chosen to endorse Barack Obama through clothing designs. From the likes of Tory Burch, Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Tracey Reese to Beyonce Pharell Williams and Russell Simmons. So if Barack Obama is your choice for President, check out the designs that will not only help his campaign through your donation, but you will also have a fashionable political piece to add to your closet. And to keep it fair, I did go to the John McCain website, but there weren't any trendy designer pieces there for sale at his store. Sorry.

Visit http://store.barackobama.com/ to make a purchase. I LOVE that Charles Nolan wrap shirt. Happy Shopping!

I've been out of it...

Today is a new day, I will strive to be a little more dedicated to Sugar Cane Closet...it hasnt received that much TLC this week. But honey I'm TIYARD!!! Working 2 jobs, going to the gym and watching my shows has my 24 year old self ready to pass out at a moments notice. So to my 2 readers checking out my blog, please pray for me. So there was so much going on this week...1st Sex In The City on DVD release, then talks of the $700 Billion Bailout and lastly the 1st Presidential Debate aired last night.

So Tuesday I went to go purchase Sex in The City at the Best Buy on Lexington and lo and behold...they sold out of the Special Edition at 9 am!! I was HIGHLY upset, but I ended it up purchasing it when I got home (after buying online and arranging for store pickup) forcing my BF to drive me to pick it up (*sidenote he was not happy). But who cares? I needed my SEX and I was not letting his little attitude get in the way of that! So I watched it the same night, I laughed and I cried as if I didn't see it in the movies. LOVE IT..I still have to watch the second disc, I was too tired to watch it.

Soooo I see that President Bush is really trying to bush this $700 Billion bailout, I won't comment much, because I'm not a political aficionado. BUT if this will come in the way of filling my closet with sweet treats and going on vacays...I am not a fan! And that's all I will say.

Finally, last night I did watch the debate and Barack Obama is a fine man yall. I had to keep reminding myself that he could be my father and that's disgusting. I just want to point out that I'm not a fan of the dress Michelle Obama wore last night, she normally looks fab, but last night I wondered...who the hell told her to wear that?! And Cindy blinded me with that red pantsuit, she's just scary!!

Sugary Sweet Sex In The City

Today is filled with eventful happenings! President Bush is in town to speak at the U.N. (*yawn*) and Lexington Avenue is crazed with Secret Service and NY’s finest everywhere. Rihanna’s Disturbia was playing in my head as I tried to finagle my way through the crowd….I was not amused. It’s definitely not a good look if you’re going to be rushing to Best Buy during lunch to purchase Sex in the City on DVD today. It’s time to break out the Manolo’s (or lack thereof), Cosmo’s and cupcakes! I’m so excited, if you live vicariously through Carrie and her gang of fashionable NY friends as I do, I’m sure you’re just as excited.

Ohhh the fashions, the shoes, the accessories, the bags..I’m already getting my sweet craving. I don’t know one person (besides my mom) who hasn’t been influenced by the fashion that came from this show- Carrie’s eclectic style, Charlotte’s classic and crisp fashion sense, Miranda’s trendy yet pragmatic choices and Samantha’s sexy powerful style- I’m sure in each group of friends there is one person that correlates with one of these characters. So I think I’ll be tip-toeing out at 11:30 to go pick up mine!

Sex in the City is a must for any young, budding fashionista, the fashions are delectable, the plot is enticing and the characters are relatable. I can't wait to rip off the plastic and watch it tonight!! Plus…there’s an extra perk to today’s purchase of the extended version..they’re giving away 1,ooo pairs of Manolo’s!!! I pray that I get my golden ticket this time, however my chances are 1 in a million. But fingers crossed anyway!!

Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel... I Adore You.

I’ve been out of commission for awhile, due to me trying to do a million things. So I apologize to the two people who read my blog. So two weekends ago (yes I know…delayed) the Coco Chanel movie debuted on Lifetime and I LOVED IT!!! However there were a few things that didn’t sit right with me and that consisted of the following:

• Shirley Maclaine was a bit scary to me… her makeup just didn’t sit right with me.
• I wasn’t a fan of the constant reference to her lover (who was scrumptious by the way) Boy Capel
• My appetite for a peek into Chanel’s life was left…hungry. Chanel is a fashion icon and I felt that the movie didn’t do her justice.

But I loved it none the less.

AND speaking of Chanel…this tweed jacket from the Chanel Resort 2008 collection is the perfect piece for embracing the chill this Fall.

Beyonce prepped for Fall earlier last month by pairing it with a pair of jeans and pumps. This jacket (or something similar for the budget fashionistas) would be the perfect icing on an outfit-it’s a statement piece that’s classic yet trendy. I can only dream of Chanel in my closet, sitting pretty on a sugarcoated hanger calling my name. For now I have to stick with perusing the Chanel boutique at Saks and ignoring the awkward stares from the sales associates when I say “I’m just looking.” But you know what..I don’t care, my love for Chanel is endless and I will continue on my “window shopping sprees” until I can do the real thing.

Updates on the Emmy’s later. Also…does anyone know how I can makeover over my blog?

Zac Posen, I want to have your baby...

So I have decided to back track to the shows, because Zac Posen’s Spring 2009 Collection is TO DIE FOR!!! I mean seriously, it is to die for….well a few of the pieces. But, I would seriously have his kids just to have access to his designs. I’m in awe, a state of lust and desire and I can’t seem to understand WHY I don’t have a golden ticket! I should have been there, I would have killed to be there! Some of those pieces NEED to be in my closet…seriously. The leopard print dresses are definitely worthy of being a lust item for me, the yellow chiffon coat as well, I couldn’t compose myself….LOVED IT!! I can definitely see these on red carpets to come. With onlookers such as Jada Pinkett Smith, Venus and Serena Williams, Claire Danes and the fabulous Andre Leon Talley (with his peep toe velvet flats and all), these designs are sure to grace someone’s award show next season. They have to and if not…someone needs to fire their stylist! But anywhoo…check out a few pieces from the collection. As my friend Dennis puts it, “HONEY!!! I LIVEEDDDDD and then I DIE!!”

Can I just note that I am not a fan of the hip padding, if you needed girls with hips in the show Zac, you should have called me because I know a few! And yes, this does include myself. He really brought the fabulousness to the Tents with this collection, too bad I couldn’t be there. I’ll just savor the mouth-watering designs from the image stills and imagine I was there.

It's In The Bag

Since I am unable to attend the Tents at Bryant Park this season due to my position at the bottom of the fashion caste system, I decided to switch gears and discuss the Fall Trends. Discussing the shows just makes me depressed and wanting to eat cupcakes. So to get myself out of my slump, I want to discuss one of my favorite things....BAGS!!!

See one thing I am is a bag lover, a bag LUVA!!! Say it like Rupaul, with a little emphasis on “VA”. I may not be able to afford the bags that appeal to my sweet tooth, but a girl can dream. I feel like sometimes all a woman needs in her life is beautiful bag, cute shoes and a coiffed ‘do and she’s ready to have Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I love handbags that are classic, and for some reason I don’t believe in “IT” bags pertaining to a particular season. And this Fall there are so many delicious bags that I would love to have in my sugarcane closet, but of course…can’t afford…let alone the “IT” bag of the season. I look at it this way, God with bless me with my Louis Vuitton and Gucci bags one day soon…I can just feel it in my bones. But for now…I’ll take what I can get.

But anywhoo, this season a hot trend amongst handbags is the top handle bag, it’s all about structure and sophistication. They add ladylike touch to any outfit you are wearing, whether it's jeans and a romantic blouse or a fitted suit and heels. I can only marvel and stare at those who live the glamorous life and can afford to have a Yves Saint Laurent or Prada treat slung over their shoulder. AND no I won’t result to Chinatown. Here are some examples of the Top Handle Bag. Learn it, Live it and Love it.

1. Bottega Veneta Basketwoven Leather Top Handle Bag $2,650.00 2. Prada Nappa Mordore Tote $1,896.00 3. Salvatore Ferragamo Large Frame Python Satchel $3,150.00 4. Yves Saint Laurent Volcano Tote $1,395.00 5. Marc Jacobs, Blake Shoulder Bag $995.00

If you’re like me and love pretty things and sometimes need your sweet fix of Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton but can't afford them, I suggest you do one or all of the following:

** Go to Saks and play the role of a potential buyer. (The associates may get a little upset once they figure out that you’re not buying a DAMN thing, so just say “I’m just looking”).

** Look for bags that fall in line with the trend and within your budget.

** Or if #2 doesn’t fit the bill, do what you gotta do to get what you want honey. (However, do not hold me accountable for you actions)

Have fun shopping for your Fall bag…I know I will!

Is God Trying to Tell Me Something?

So this morning was not a good one. I rolled out of bed and didn’t feel like being fabulous today (number one strike against myself I must say), no makeup, no jewelry, no really cute outfit. Just jeans, a plain shirt and sandals…I know, kill me. So I’m on my way into the city, half-sleep on the NJ Transit, when we stop at Newark and I sleepily look out the window. Who do I see? WHO DO I SEE? Ms. Mikki Taylor, the Beauty Editor of Essence Magazine. Now here’s a little back story--this is my third time seeing her on the train, the THIRD time and every time I’m not primped, prepped and fabulous! Is this God’s way of trying to tell me that I need to be completely fabulous everyday? I mean seriously, it’s time to go shopping. Because the next time I see her I will be MORE THAN READY honey!
By the way...she looks like she wakes up put together!

I missed my invite in the mail to Fashion Rocks…

So Fashion Rocks was on last night and like any budding fashionista, I had my eyes glued to the “tube”. Celebs came out full throttle and some were hits on the red carpet, others I could have done without.

Beyonce kept it cute and simple in Costume National LDB. Ciara stunned the red carpet in an Elie Saab Fall 2008 asymmetric gown that fit like a glove. Can’t say I’m loving the hair though. Leona Lewis looked cute in a black and white Roberto Cavalli Resort 2009 mini dress, I’m not sure about the tights though. Ashanti tried in a modified pink embellished mini dress by Marchesa…it’s just not working for me on her body. I think she should have chosen something else, not because she modified the dress, because I’m not a fan of the original either, it just didn’t work for me. Leighton Meeister looked fab in a goddess Missoni gown, I loooooove it! Hey Anna (the true Devil Wears Prada) and Valentino (looking a litte too tan)…I cant really say too much about them because they have it all honey, they have it all. Oh Paula...As for the show, I really enjoyed it, I loved how they went through the decades of fashion and played songs pertaining to that era. When the Jackson 5 came one….I couldn’t contain myself!!

So.....Rihanna=fabulous!!!

Rihanna, killed it on the red carpet in a Monique Luhillier Fall 2008 black gown, love the little touch of jewel embellishment at the waist. She is definetely staking her claim in red carpet divas. And how about her interpretation of Madonna’s “Vogue”, Princess RiRi you better go girl!! Her body is amazing!! A little upset by the costume choice, it was very Cher in Vegas…no likey. But you know you were in your house singing “Vogue…c’mon”.
As for Beyonce...

So Beyonce is normally my girl, but last night I couldn’t understand her choices in costumes or hair. Like why was the Etta James wig being worn during the Stand Up For Cancer performance? Not cute Beyonce...not cute. As for the gold jumpsuit, not a good look in my opinion. Imean I am a fan of Jean Paul Gautier, but that jumpsuit just wasn’t right…it aint right yall. But she will redeem herself yall, because she is always fab every other time.

However, I was disappointed in a few things last night, a few things really had me puzzled. Some red carpet choices left me in the dark, I'm really not understanding the choices.

I normally applaud Solange for her bold choices in fashion, but this ensemble was not a good choice. I'm not feeling the peacock feathers, I just cant. And her performance was...ok I guess. I’m rooting for Solange, I really am, but I just dont know. But let me stop because she can slap me with her wallet and knock me out and step on me in her Jimmy Choos. Go head Solange...do your thing.

But Lil Mama and Vivica Fox, I really have no words. I really tried to be a Lil' Mama fan, but I cant. I just can't get with her, and she tries yall. She does. And can someone explain to me what happened to Vivica? Is she really a glam god? I'm not a fan of her look.

Overall I did enjoy the show, the fashions, the lights, the music!! I would have died to be there, even if it was in the nosebleed seats. So next year I need to be in there. Should I stalk the offices of Conde Nast? How do you think that would pan out? Me, a budding fashionista of color standing outside the offices of Conde Nast soliciting for tickets to next year’s Fashion Rocks? I don’t think it would turn out well. But a girl can dream can’t she?
