Sweet Treat for NYC fashionistas...

Every girl LOVES a sample sales, there's something about designer labels at discounted prices that just makes me all warm inside. And if youou are like me and LOVE the finer things in life (and by finer things, I mean delectable clothes), you are always up for a good sample sale....even if it is to just peruse and soak it all in. Well NYC fashionistas, there is a MAJOR sample sale going on this weekend, and we owe it ALL to Fifth On Main, a new ecommerce boutique that is slated to debut this Spring. Joy!! Some of the designer labels that will be going selling at a discounted rate 40-60% will be Abaete, Alvin Valley, Brian Reyes, Badgley Mischka, TIBI, Twelfth Street, Carmen Marc Valvo, Catherine Malandrino, Nicole Miller, Rebecca Taylor, Mint by Jodi Arnold, Theory, Chaiken and more! I already have the wallet ready!

So here's the goods on the event:

Dates: April 17th 10am – 8pm

April 18th 10am – 7pm
April 19th 10am - 7pm

Location: 109 Spring Street, between Greene & Mercer (Soho)

If you are in NYC, check it out and make a purchase or two. I know I'll be making my way down there, pray that I don't spend too much and have to sneak it in the apartment. The boyfriend is a stickler for a budget. He just doesn't understand my need to live fancy, poor kid, one day he'll learn...don't mess with me and my clothes!!!

Pharell Going Green...

When it comes to my personal style, I'm a little subdued, I like structure and classic looks. However, I applaud those who step out of the box, go against the grain and set trends. LOVE IT. With this being said, I want to shed light on something that I think is pretty dope (yes I said "dope") that trendsetter Pharell Williams (aka my imaginary boyfriend) is doing to help the world become a better place.

Back in December Pharell linked up with the textile company, Bionic Yarn to produce eco-friendly fabrics. The thing that peaks my interest about this venture is that Bionic Yarn makes their materials out of recyclable plastic bottles and Pharell has made buckets of money with his Billionaire Boys Club clothing line consisting of jeans, tees, and such. So this pairing should be interesting. I mean who has ever hear of jeans being made out of recyclable plastic bottles?! Not me. So I'm definetely looking forward to seeing the end result.

Here's what my boy Pharell said about the partnership.

“Our goal is to be the go-to fabric supplier, we want to provide quality fabrics that happen to also be sustainable. We want to do everything from high-end luggage, to high-end denim, to university caps and gowns to Parks Department uniforms. It’s a plus that the fabric brings environmentalism to a whole new level”.

Even the Parks Department workers can be fly in their eco-friendly uniforms! It's not just for the rich and famous and I now I am officially a fan of this project. I mean if Park Department workers can get at piece of Bionic Yarn, I know I can. (And when I say know, I really mean hope...he did say high-end denim...clearing throat). So I did a little digging and found that the average piece of luggage from Bionic Yarn is made from 18 recycled plastic water bottles, and the average pair of jeans is made from 7. This should be interesting, I'm very intrigued. AND I bet the jeans are SUPER soft!! Definetely have to check the price points for those because high-end to me can mean something different to Pharrell, and let's be honest...I'm sure it does.

Where's Farnsworth Bentley with my umbrella?

Can I just say that this weather is ridiculous? I mean one day its nice and sunny and the next its cloudy and rainining. On days such as this I rarely "get dressed" because of these 3 reasons:

1. The rain just puts me in a dreary mood and it reflects in my ensemble (lets just say the look I tend to go for on day like this is laid back cool girl-this "look" consists of jeans, some chuck taylors and a cute plaid top with tuxedo piping and ruffles from the Gap....not an Oh, am I fabulous kind of day, BUT not to shabby either).

2. Rain & my hair, DONT get along (there's a whole method to preserving my coif for work-it stays wrapped under my scarf which is hidden under the BEST wool hat ever...now that Spring is here, I'm going to have to rework this method).

3. Thirdly, I take a look at my boss, see what shes is wearing or has been wearing to work (which consists of tight stonewashed jeans from the '80's, an old school turtleneck and some shoes that are leaning to the side) and wonder WHY even try. Shouldn't your boss motivate you or force you to step up your style game at work? Like, "damn I want to be like her when I grow up"? NOT THE CASE HERE PEOPLE.

And lastly, my top reason for hating this on again, off again, sunshine, rainy weather is that I lost my beloved GAP umbrella a couple of months ago and I have YET to buy another umbrella. I mean I really have been anti-umbrella right now...I know, foolish. But let's see you try walking around the city with 50 million other people holding umbrellas and then lets talk. So for now, I'll just keep trucking to work with my hair wrapped under my scarf, UNDER my hat in the rain praying that my mascara doesn't run. ALL the while trying to be fabulous. Where's Mr. Bentley when you need him? I want to have my Diddy moment.

Cheap ‘N Chic

Because we are in a recession and I LOVE fabulous finds at frugal price points. I thought I’d shed light on a dress my girl Tracy wore to the fabulous party we went to this past weekend. It’s the type of dress that will flatter ANY figure, boy-shaped, pear-shaped, bottom-heavy, top-heavy, pleasantly plump…you name it. The dope thing about it is that it REAKS effortless chic, and you’ll be the cool girl in the party that looks like she just rolled out of the bed, threw on this fabulous frock and headed on her way. You will definitely have an “Oh…Am I Fabulous?” moment.

So, here’s the scoop on the dress, it’s a simple colorblock tank dress that you can carry from day to night. It has a fitted tank with a woven skirted bottom that will flatter and/or create curves with the sash belt that allows you to cinch in the waist, creating an hourglass silhouette. Cinch & Snap! (all my Legally Blonde loversknow what that means) And get this….it’s only $14.50! It comes in array of colors, and it's very transitional-you can take it from day to night. So you know I already hopped on the bandwagon and ordered mine in white and purple (love Forever21, but hate the store by my house…too much chaos). I can’t wait to throw it on with some gladiator sandals or peep toe shoes! Oooh I LOVE the spring and summer!
Check out how Tracy wore it this weekend, you can’t see her shoes, but she wore it with some cute peep toe shoes and a cropped mustard jacket from Target. LOVES it.

And yes that’s me next to her, just being fabulous.

Sigh.....

So I just saw these pics of Jay Z and Beyonce lunching it up in NYC over the weekend as I was eating my breakfast (multigrain bagel and latte) and I literally gagged and proceeded to threw my damn bagel out! Beyonce looks uber fab and I can’t take it, there’s no reason why I should eating bread, let alone anything when she is walking around like that. The BF took me to dinner last night and I’m regretting my damn dinner choices. Whether she knows it or not, Beyonce in all her effortless fabulousness is basically telling all of us curvy girls to step our damn game up. I just can’t take it. Spring is here and if she’s going to be parading around the streets of NYC like that, I need to get back to the gym. 5:30 a.m. spin class, here I come….

BTW…didn’t make it to TopShop this weekend, heard it was a foolish mess anyway.

Just Because...

Fugees - Ready or Not

I thought this morning delight would be perfect for today. It's and oldie but goodie, it's getting my pumped for my day and more importantly, my TopShop trip this Saturday.

TopShop Here I Come!

TopShop is here honey! TopShop is here! And I am so elated that it has landed in America, more importantly...NYC. Again, I know we are in a recession, but the one thing I love about Topshop is that it has cheap, yet chic clothes. I am all for that. Pieces from Kate Moss's Sprinng '09 line will be debuted there as well. Just in time for Spring shopping...how delicious!

The NY flagship store opened Thursday in SOHO (478 Broadway and Broome), they had this fabulous preview for all the A-listers the night before (clearly my invite was lost, but hey...fire the PR girl), and it opened for the public yesterday. I won't be making my trip until Saturday and I'm already plotting on purchasing at least one fabulous piece. So excited!

I did a litle research and here are some of the perks for shopping at the NYC location this week:

  • You can try out the Style Advisor service in the Style Lounge. Topshop will have in-house style experts help you select the perfect pieces for you body and style while you relax sipping on champagne. They’ll be there all the week and will be taking bookings for future appointments. Ok, made up the last part about the champagne, but wouldn't that be fab?! You actually get complimentary scones and jam. Yum. But seriously, who wouldn't want that?!

  • Purchases in-store over $100 will come with a free, limited edition Cool Britannia t-shirt while supplies last. So, I guess I can disregard that one, because clearly there won't be any left. These NY fashionistas are beasts when it comes to this store, they have been gagging for the last couple of months over the arrival of the store.

  • The final 'perk' is the instore pampering sessions being offered. Shoppers can sign up for makeovers and manicures while perusing (and by perusing, I mean streetfighting...because it's going to be a jungle in there) and enjoying the beats of the DJ who will be spinning all week. Let's hope they don't play The Dream's Rocking That Thang, because I may end up doing a show.

For the fashionistas who aren't in NYC, you can still reap the benefits of Topshops arrival by receiving free shipping on ALL online purchases! Interested? Check it out TopShopNYC, shipping is normally $15, so you have until April 9th. I will report back on Saturday about the store and all it's glory. Hey...I may even pick up one of Kate Moss's pieces from her collection IF they are friendly to my wallet. We shall see. Here's a couple pieces from her collection.

Am I the only one excited? I'll report back with photos, foolishness, purchases and all that my first instore TopShop experience presents!

Pure Foolishness

For the last couple of days, Bloomingdales has been having their Private Sale, one of the most coveted sales of shoppers who salivate over all things bloomies. Well, because I could not allow this sale to pass without making a purchase (plus I felt like I was being taunted and seduced by the sale because of all the emails from Bloomingdales that flooded my inbox); I had to make a purchase...just had to. And within 15 minutes, my purchase had been solidifed-I purchased a very cute French Connection spring coat, that was trendy yet chic. I had it shipped to the BF's sisters house because I dare not have it sent to work. Lets just say, the mailroom is a little shady...packages tend to go missing. Right.

But the purchase was $70 total...shipping,taxes, you name it; for a coat that was originally priced at$190. I think I made a great purchase, I think I made a fabulous purchase, I mean we are in a recession, we need to cut corners wherever we can....I know this. But I still need to keep up appearances and thats that. Say what you want, but I will be looking fab in my new coat this Spring, even if I have to have crackers for lunch for the next month. I mean we choice our battles and in this one, Bloomingdales won. So we need to recognize (and by we, I mean me) that this coat will add that extra ounce of fabulousness to whatever outfit I wear. I could be out running errands in some bleachstained sweatpants and still look fab with this coat on! Ok, maybe not really, but that's what I'm telling myself to justfiy the purchase. I need to come up with key driving points that will support this purchase when the BF finds it hiding (and by hiding, I mean mixed with the rest of the clothes) in the back of the closet. Because it will happen and I will need to be ready. This damn recession is making me act out of character!
