I Wish I Had A Golden Ticket...

Fashion Week kicks off today in NYC...oh how I wish I could just sleep at the steps of the tents and "blend" in with the models and steal a peek. But we all know that... it will never happen! The Mercedex Benz Fashion Week website clearly states that "ENTRY BY INVITATION ONLY. NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC". So as an ode to Fashion Week, I decided to portray a few of the designers that have peaked my interest. Since it is one of the shows kicking off Fashion Week, I decided to portray BCBGMAXAZRIA.

The line was founded by Max Azria in 1989, BCBG was designed to bring European sophistication to American women. Named for the French phrase "Bon Chic, Bon Genre", meaning good style, good attitude, which is a direct reflection of the designs. The label has become a hot commodity amongst young Hollywood and is always evolving their look and feel. And seeing as though I don't have a Golden Ticket (channeling Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) to the show, here are a few stills from their Fall 2008 showing from this past Spring.

I love how this collection emphasized the body; the cinching of waists with leather and wool belts, and the minidresses that showed legs for days.Every piece had a girlie feel to it, the ruffles, the pleated crepe shorts, and the fabrics used...for now, a girl can only dream to be sitting in the tents of one of his shows. I can't wait to see (realistically read) about what's unveiled today. And can I just say...Chanel Iman better work!

I love the juxtaposition of the hard and the soft on BCBG's runway. The leather belts with delicate dresses or heavier fabrics against soft charmuese...it was a really good look. Just looking at this makes me want to steal a ticket from tim Gunn...I know he has some...lol!

You go, you fashionista diva. I am so proud of you stepping out and trying to make your passion a career. Much Kudos. Love the article and only wish you had a real ticket to the tents. I love the pic of Chanel Iman, one of few sistas we ever see these days strutting her stuff. In this year of the 'potential for change' (Obama's Nomination), we as folks of color have to keep our nose to the grindstone and make it happen no matter what. Power does not concede without a struggle. Grasp your brass ring.
