So Sugarcane closet is about more than just fashion, it’s about music, life, art and everything that warms me inside. The key connector to everything is my love for fashion, my love of clothes, pretty things and the personal style of others. With that being said, I must digress about my subway ride this morning….it was amazing. So it is a lovely day in NYC today, the weather is gorgeous, people (including myself), are working it today like they are doing a runway show for Zac Posen and it’s just lovely. I woke up today with the “oh, am I fabulous” complex this morning, turned a couple of heads and prepped myself for a productive day.
With that being said, I am in a state of bliss this morning, which is why my subway ride didn’t bother me. I got onto a semi empty car and there is this man sprawled out on the seat in a come hither pose in a pair of skinny jeans, multi-colored sneakers, a navy blue tank from the ‘70’s, fingerless leather gloves and a stocking cap on his head that had a few pulls in it. All the while with a umbrella cocked between his legs. No one and I mean no one dared to sit on the opposite end of the row with him, so what do I do because I applaud such audacious choices in fashion? I sit down, look his way, smile and enjoy my ride to Lexington; all the while I feel these piercing eyes burning through the side of my head. He did not move the whole subway ride, people got on and off the car with their mouths open, looks of embarrassment and disgust, and you know what? He did not care, he stayed in that pose the whole ride, he may have even adjusted the straps on his gloves. I don’t know if we were being punked or if he was practicing for a an upcoming photo shoot, prepping for an audition on America’s Next Top Model OR if he was practicing to be an extra in a Kanye West video. He obviously woke up with the “oh, am I fabulous” complex, because honey, he did not care if people stared and pointed (as they did), he was bold, confident and I’m sure in his mind…trendy. We all can learn a little something from that man, dusty sneakers and all, he knew he was fabulous and I loved it! Gotta love NYC
